Affiliates

Creators, reviewers and bloggers who like your app can promote it through AppsXi Affiliates. When a buyer purchases through an affiliate's link, Square splits the payment at the moment of sale: you are paid, AppsXi takes its 5%, and the affiliate's commission goes straight into the affiliate's own Square account. There are no monthly payouts, invoices or tax forms for you to handle: affiliates handle the taxes on their own commissions.

Turn it on

In Developer → your app → Pricing and licensing → Affiliates:

  1. Tick Run an affiliate program.
  2. Choose the commission, from 5% to 50% of the sale price after discounts.
  3. Optionally leave a note for affiliates, for example "Review copies on request".

Affiliates see your app in their dashboard right away and can share links such as appsxi.com/a/theircode/your-app. Turning the program off stops new commissions immediately; sales already made are not affected.

Programs are for paid apps sold one at a time. Bundles and free apps are not eligible.

The money

Example: a $20 sale with a 20% commission.

LineAmount
Buyer pays$20.00
Square processing (3.3% + 30¢)$0.96
AppsXi fee (5%)$1.00
Affiliate commission (20%)$4.00
You receive$14.04

Technically, AppsXi creates the payment in your Square account with app_fee_allocations: one share to AppsXi's location and one to the affiliate's. Square's limit on application fees (90% of payments of $5 or more, 60% below) is never reached, because commissions stop at 50%.

Attribution

  • A click on an affiliate link leaves a cookie for that app for 30 days. A purchase in that window is attributed to the affiliate.
  • Last click wins: if the buyer later clicks a different affiliate's link for the same app, that affiliate gets the sale.
  • Sales made from inside your app with the SDK's openCheckout() are attributed only when the buyer's browser carries a recent affiliate click.
  • Affiliate sales count toward the charts like any other sale.

Rules AppsXi enforces

  • No self referrals. No commission when the affiliate is the buyer, when the affiliate belongs to your developer account, when the affiliate's Square account is your own, or when the purchase comes from the network the affiliate used that day.
  • Refunds need the affiliate's Square account. Square refunds a shared payment through the same accounts, so affiliates cannot disconnect Square while a referred sale is inside its 14-day refund window. If a refund still fails (for example the affiliate revoked AppsXi in Square), AppsXi support refunds it from your Square Dashboard.
  • Refunds. A refund within 14 days of the sale takes the affiliate's commission back in proportion (a 50% refund reverses half). After 14 days the affiliate keeps it, and the refund comes from your share and AppsXi's as usual.
  • Disclosure. Affiliates agree to disclose the relationship wherever they share a link, as the FTC's endorsement guides require. The share text in their dashboard already says "affiliate link".
  • Conduct. No spam, misleading claims, fake reviews or ads bidding on your app's name. AppsXi suspends affiliates who break the rules; tell us at /report if you see a problem.
  • Square required. Affiliates must connect their own Square account, where Square verifies their identity. Until they do, their clicks are counted but sales carry no commission.

What you see

  • Pricing and licensing → Affiliates: each affiliate who has linked to your app, with clicks, sales, revenue and commissions for the last 90 days.
  • Pricing and licensing → Where sales come from: paid sales by source: the AppsXi store, your app's paywalls (the source you pass to openCheckout()), affiliate links and AppsXi Desktop.
  • Orders: each referred order shows the affiliate's code and commission.

For affiliates

Join at /affiliates. You choose a code, connect Square (two-step sign-in required) and copy links from your dashboard. If you also sell apps on AppsXi, you can have commissions paid into your developer account's Square instead of connecting a second one. Commissions are your income: you handle the taxes on them, and AppsXi does not withhold tax or send tax forms.
