Take potentially dangerous PDFs, office documents, or images and convert them to safe PDFs
Take potentially dangerous PDFs, office documents, or images and convert them to a safe PDF.
Dangerzone works like this: You give it a document that you don't know if you can trust (for example, an email attachment). Inside of a sandbox, Dangerzone converts the document to a PDF (if it isn't already one), and then converts the PDF into raw pixel data: a huge list of RGB color values for each page. Then, outside of the sandbox, Dangerzone takes this pixel data and converts it back into a PDF.

Yes. Dangerzone is free and open source under the GNU AGPL 3.0. AppsXi lists the maintainers' official release and does not charge for it.
AppsXi downloads every version of Dangerzone from the maintainers' official GitHub release and checks it before it is listed. For version 0.11.0 (checked Oct 16, 2026), the Mac download is signed by its developer and notarized by Apple, the Windows download is Authenticode signed, each file matches the checksum GitHub publishes for the release, byte for byte and a malware scan found nothing.
Dangerzone's Mac download is built for Intel. Apple silicon Macs run it through Rosetta 2.
Dangerzone is an open source project by Freedom of the Press Foundation on GitHub (freedomofpress/dangerzone). Help and bug reports go to its maintainers there.
