Avogadro libraries provide 3D rendering, visualization, analysis and data processing useful in computational chemistry, molecular modeling, bioinformatics, mate
Avogadro is an advanced molecular editor designed for cross-platform use in computational chemistry, molecular modeling, education, bioinformatics, materials science, and related areas. It offers flexible rendering and a powerful plugin architecture.
Core features and goals of the Avogadro project include:
Avogadro 2 began as a rewrite of the original [Avogadro 1.x][Avogadro1], which is now unsupported. The successor is faster, better, much more stable, and [more feature-rich] (https://two.avogadro.cc/docs/whats-new-in-avogadro-2/).
Avogadro's codebase is split across a and an application repository (opens in a new tab). The new code architecture provides a high-performance rendering engine, modern code development, and significantly improved speed and stability.
Avogadro is being developed as part of the [Open Chemistry][OpenChemistry] project by an open community, which was started at [Kitware][Kitware] as an open-source community project.
Our user documentation (opens in a new tab) can be found on the Avogadro website, as well as a brief guide to getting started (opens in a new tab).

Yes. Avogadro 2 is free and open source under the BSD 3-Clause License. AppsXi lists the maintainers' official release and does not charge for it.
AppsXi downloads every version of Avogadro 2 from the maintainers' official GitHub release and checks it before it is listed. For version 2.0.0 (checked Oct 14, 2026), the Windows download is Authenticode signed, each file matches the checksum GitHub publishes for the release, byte for byte and a malware scan found nothing.
Avogadro 2 is an open source project by Open Chemistry on GitHub (OpenChemistry/avogadrolibs). Help and bug reports go to its maintainers there.
