A major rewrite of the Arduino IDE built on Theia and Electron, using arduino-cli for compiling and uploading
Arduino IDE 2.x is a major rewrite of the Arduino development environment that shares no code with the 1.x line. It is based on the Theia IDE framework and built with Electron.
Backend operations such as compilation and uploading are handled by an arduino-cli instance running in daemon mode. The project set out to preserve the interface and user experience of the previous major version to make upgrading frictionless, which makes it a familiar choice for anyone programming Arduino boards.

Yes. Arduino IDE is free and open source under the GNU AGPL 3.0. AppsXi lists the maintainers' official release and does not charge for it.
AppsXi downloads every version of Arduino IDE from the maintainers' official GitHub release and checks it before it is listed. For version 2.3.10 (checked Oct 13, 2026), the Windows download is Authenticode signed, each file matches the checksum GitHub publishes for the release, byte for byte and a malware scan found nothing.
Arduino IDE is an open source project by Arduino on GitHub (arduino/arduino-ide). Help and bug reports go to its maintainers there.
